Why You’ll Never Regret Booking a Newborn Photography Session in Brisbane

Brisbane Newborn Photographer In Home

My newborn sessions are slow, calm and intentional. They take place in your home, where life with your baby is unfolding every day, so you can relax in your space, surrounded by the familiar.

Bringing a baby into the world is one of life’s most transformative and emotional seasons. In the thick of newborn life, between night feeds, nappy changes, and finding your rhythm - time has a way of blurring. One minute they’re curled on your chest, the next they’re rolling over and giggling back at you. As a Brisbane newborn photographer and mother myself, I know how fleeting this chapter is. That’s why I’m so passionate about creating honest, heart-led photographs of your newborn that will one day mean everything to you.

Why Book a Newborn Photography Session?

Because photos have the power to take you back. Not just to what your baby looked like, but to how they felt in your arms, how they curled into you like home, how you looked at them in complete awe. Your newborn session is about more than just pretty photos (although you’ll get those too). It’s about slowing down. Soaking in your baby. And having beautiful, professional images that honour the raw, magical beauty of your growing family.

What is a Newborn Session with Carly Hillier Photography like?

It’s calm, connected, and deeply intentional. I photograph newborns in the comfort of your Brisbane home, where you and your baby feel most relaxed. There’s no pressure, no props, and definitely no awkward posing. Just you, your baby, and your family - exactly as you are. I gently guide you through the session, allowing plenty of time for feeds, cuddles, and nappy changes. My goal is to create a space where you feel supported and seen, so your love and connection can naturally unfold. I offer a mixture of lifestyle/ documentary photography as well as natural studio style images.

“Carly brought such a calm energy with her, it felt like having a friend over. She worked around feeds, nappy changes and baby cries without blinking an eye. No stress, no pressure, just warmth and patience the whole way through” - Client Love

When Should You Book a Newborn Session?

The best time to photograph your newborn is within the first 5–14 days after birth. This is when they’re still deliciously sleepy and curled up, the perfect time for those soft, snuggly portraits. That said, I also capture beautiful in-home newborn sessions up to 3 months old, the sessions just change slightly based on how awake your lil honey is. To ensure availability, I always recommend booking while you’re still pregnant, ideally in your second trimester. We’ll pencil in your due date and adjust as needed once your baby arrives.

“Becoming a mum has been a bit of a tough transition, so thank you for capturing these special moments and helping me see the beauty and joy in it all. These memories mean the world to me” - Client Love

What if we’re not feeling photo-ready?

It’s understandable that you may not be feeling completely yourself postpartum, I’ve been there. Let’s find an outfit that you feel comfortable and beautiful in first. I have a small collection of client wardrobe dresses available to borrow or I also love a more casual jeans and a button up top vibe for home. I provide a full style guide to my clients and also am just a text away to chat through any styling questions. Through the session, I will guide you every step of the way with lots of direction so you feel comfortable and confident during the session.
