When Is the Best Time to Book Your Brisbane Newborn Photographer?

Brisbane newborn photographer home

Planning for a baby comes with a lot of to-dos and somewhere between choosing prams and packing your hospital bag, you’ll find yourself Googling: “When should I book my newborn photos?”

I’ve got you, mumma. Here’s everything you need to know.

The Sweet Spot: Booking During Your Second Trimester

The ideal time to book your newborn photography session is around 16–24 weeks pregnant. This ensures you’ve got a spot locked in. I only take a limited number of newborn sessions per month and you can cross one more thing off your to-do list - hooray!

Why so early? Because newborn sessions are ideally held when your baby is 5–14 days old. At this age, they’re still super sleepy, curly and content to be swaddled. I do offer newborn sessions put to about 6 weeks old. After 6 weeks, your baby will start to be more alert which is also beautiful, it just changes my approach slightly to your photoshoot.

But What If My Baby Arrives Early (or Late)?

That’s totally normal and absolutely fine. When you book with Carly Hillier Photography, I pencil in your photoshoot based on your due date but stay flexible. These sessions are scheduled Wednesday to Friday (when your partner is still usually on paternity leave) so there is a little extra shuffle room. Once your little honey arrives, we lock in a date that works for your family and your recovery. No stress, no pressure. I suggest giving

Can I Still Book If My Baby Is Already Born?

Short answer: If I have availability, I’ll always do my best to fit you in. I only take on a limited number of newborn sessions each month and booking in advance gives you the best chance at securing your spot (especially if you’re wanting a specific date).

Bonus: You’ll Have Time to Plan

Booking in early gives us plenty of time to chat about your vision, what you are comfortable with and answer any questions you might have about the session. It also gives you the opportunity to pre-plan any styling especially if you have other kids.

Regardless of when you book, we’ll create a relaxed and beautiful experience that feels like you. Learn more about my In-Home Newborn Experience in this blog post.
